The 35th annual Oceanside Samoan Cultural Celebration is a weeklong homegrown event, open to the public, presented by volunteers who work alongside Save Our Streets, a group focused on Oceanside’s troubled neighborhoods and city park venues.
This year’s celebration begins at Melba Bishop Rec Center on Sunday July 2 at 3pm with a traditional Choir Service, and continues Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday (5-9pm) with Youth Basketball, Cupstack, Pickleball, Music, Step Dance, and lots of Food, Fellowship, and Fun.
Saturday, July 8 (12-8:45pm) brings the event to a close with a full day of Samoan and Pacific Island Song and Dance, Island Food Booths, Cultural Performances, Island Designs & Apparel Booths, and performances, including the spectacular Siva Afi (Samoan Fire Knife Dance) and featuring Lea Love (Oceanside), Faiva (Oceanside/ Los Angeles), Local Culture (Los Angeles), and The Katinas and Kuzins Reunion (Nashville, TN)
Oceanside’s own homegrown sport, Cupstack, will be featured in the Junior Seau Beach Center from 10:30am- 1:30pm Saturday. Original World Champ, Matt ‘Attack’ Adame, will be on hand to meet and greet stackers, and test their Cupstack skills!
